Afrobeats singer and song writer Victony has released a new single, OHEMA and the world of afrobeats are talking, praising, questioning, but more importantly vibing to the song. The head-turning factor of the song is the features. Victony featured up to 14 Afrobeat artists and 3 producers. The song packed heavyweights with artists like Rema and Oxlade getting involved in the project. The song had the following artists: Rema, Ayra Star, Bella Smhurda, Odumodublvck, Babyboy AV, Blaqbonez, Bloody Civilian, Crayon, Lojay, Magixx, Oxlade, Qing Madi, and YKB.

On Monday the 20th of November, Victony put out a tweet in which he describes the projects as one that “personifies the unity and boundless possibilities that the Afrobeats genre represents,” to his credit the song does deliver in capturing the feeling. From the first 5 seconds we are introduced with an afrobeats style of introduction to add flair and invoke a celebratory tone to our ears. The “boundless possibilities” aspect was echoed by each artist as they added their own unique style that each of them are known for. This makes the song a multicultural, multifaceted, multipurpose track. Victony allows the listener to feel uplifted but also makes room for us to interpret different parts of the song.

A particular note to focus on was the harmony and continuation in the song. Making a song featuring 14 different artists isn’t easy and could somehow sound a bit choppy. Victony realized this and tackled the problem with an intelligent countermeasure. Using 3 producers. This worked in transforming the song from a project with many parts into a project with connected parts of a whole, emphasizing the desired emotion and adding unifying the distinct area in the afrobeat genre. Some music critics claim that the addition of 14 artists could drown out the actual artist and could lead to an oversaturation, but many afrobeats listeners disagree and rightly so. The song’s main chorus combines multiple voices. The big names mixed with the small to show that the product is this product is made to be much bigger than the artist, it’s about the people.

All in all, the song is a celebration of artistic creativity in the Nigerian music scene. It gives each listener something different to enjoy about it and is a testament to the hard work that artist like Victony is putting in and pouring out for the people. It will be a song going in most people’s playlists
